Craving to improve

If the student had assimilated the advices easily, he quickly looked for his own way to paint. At Daniel Rouvière's instigation who has revealed in him an obsessional curiosity and a craving to improve, he read many books. Thanks to frequent visits in Museums, he learnt, analysed paintings of many well-known painters, comparing their works in order to keep the very substance. The working sessions of "Art compared" ( cf foot note 1) imposed by Daniel Rouvière bore fruit.

Nevertheless during the first years of creation, we will notice in Jacques Malvestio's work the influence of Daniel Rouvière.

1/"Art compared

"Art compared" is ment to educate the eyes to be able to analyse works of painters.

Had the artist succeeded to :

  • Detect and render the right gesture and movement of people and animals.
  • Express the impression that you can touch the elements painted: the bark of the tree, silky material, the fluidity of water...
  • Represent on a two-dimensional support the three-dimensional space in which we live: an atmosphere of autumn, a moving cloudy sky...
  • Make us believe we are part of the painting.
  • It requests a long time and a vast passion for Art to reach such knowledge.
